Regal Italian Baroque

The Royal Palace of Caserta, including gardens, covers a surface area of no less than 47,000 m². Inside there are 34 staircases and around its perimeter four enormous courts each measuring 3,800 m2. It was first inhabited in 1780 but was gradually added to until its completion in 1845 culminating in a magnificent building measuring 249 metres long by 37 metres high, with 1,200 rooms, 1,742 windows and total building costs estimated at 8,711,000 ducats.
