In olden times they were called “Pelagies” or rather “open sea” from the ancient Greek. The islands are Lampedusa, Linosa, Lampione, Isola dei Conigli and Scoglio del Sacramento, five in all, a collection of islands, islets and rocks. Together they make up the Pelagie archipelago and are part of Sicily. There is much to be appreciated in terms of their beauty and uniqueness, as these places are unspoilt but, even if residential areas do exist, the human presence lives in harmony with its surroundings.
